Corporate Taxation

Tax planning, advance tax, returns and tax positions for companies, including the concessional tax regimes.

Corporate Taxation

Who needs it

Private and public companies, startups and subsidiaries of foreign companies.

Corporate tax is no longer only about filing a return. It affects profit, cash flow, compliance standing, investor confidence and the way decisions are taken. Frequent amendments, changing interpretations and closer scrutiny mean that a company without a planned approach carries risk it may not see. We work with companies through the year, so returns are accurate, planning is lawful and documented, and the department's questions can be answered quickly.

Corporate tax in India

Corporate tax applies to the income of companies: private and public, listed and unlisted, and foreign companies with income in India. A company's tax work covers computation of taxable income, advance tax, minimum alternate tax (MAT), tax audit, TDS, disclosures and responding to the department.

RegimeBasic rateMain conditions
Section 115BAA22% (about 25.17% with surcharge and cess)No specified exemptions or incentives; MAT does not apply
Section 115BAB15% (about 17.16% effective)New manufacturing companies meeting the conditions of the section
Normal provisions25% (turnover up to ₹400 crore) or 30%Deductions and incentives available; MAT at 15% of book profit applies
Foreign companies35% plus surcharge and cessOn income taxable in India, subject to treaties

Choosing a regime is a long-term decision: the option under section 115BAA cannot be withdrawn once exercised, so it needs to be tested against unused MAT credit and incentives first.

Why it matters

Late filing, wrong disclosures or weak documentation lead to interest, penalties, long disputes and more scrutiny in later years. Accurate, timely compliance makes the company's numbers more credible to banks and investors, and a well-run tax function helps forecast cash flow and take decisions with the tax cost known in advance.

Common questions

Should our company opt for the 22% regime?

It often lowers tax, but it removes most incentives and MAT credit cannot be used, and the choice is permanent. We compare both over several years before recommending.

Is a tax audit required for every company?

A company's statutory audit is always required. A separate tax audit under section 44AB applies above the turnover limits, which most operating companies cross.

When are company returns due?

31 October, or 30 November where a transfer pricing report is required.

Section and form numbers on this page refer to the Income-tax Act, 1961 and its rules. From 1 April 2026 the Income-tax Act, 2025 applies, with new section and form numbers; the requirements described here are broadly unchanged. We use whichever numbering applies to your transaction date.
